Howler Monkey Resort and Nature Park's Wildlife spotting Photo Album
Below is a very small gallery of Mel's photos of wildlife and little critters, she has managed to capture with her camera throughout the years.
We have found over the years that a little of clarification is required as to our wildlife's behavior and how it affects you:
- Sightings of Our wildlife is a game of chance - they are the ones who decide how lucky you are.
- Monkeys forage freely in the trees above and have no temptation to visit you on the ground. In fact, monkeys are naturally shy and being on the ground makes the monkeys feel vulnerable and defenseless.
- Big cats are heard in the distance from time to time but have never come close.
- Crocodiles may have a fierce reputation but our morelet crocodiles never climb up the river's bank - we actually have to go looking for them to catch a glimpse.
- Quite a few Birds, iguanas and other little critters can be seen right from your Cabin's porch while you nature bathe
- A family of Baird's Tapir frequents our trail and surrounding area but they are so secretive Mel hasn't been able to capture them on camera. We have to satisfy ourselves with their "gifts"
- Sightings of bad snakes are very rare because we keep the grounds cut and the elevated walkway is a huge separation.
- Scorpions, spider etc are found from time to time and virtually harmless but gladly come relocate them
- Lastly, army ants are our cleaners, they get rid of spiders, roaches, scorpions, even other ants, etc for free. All they need is for us to give them a little space for a few minutes then they are gone.
